The Holy Ground was a notorious red light district near Cobh Harbour in
Co Cork in Ireland. This was a maritime work song sang on the ships,
and boats as anchors were weighed and rigging was hoisted, hopeful that
you'd survive the journey
THE HOLY GROUND
C G C C C G C
Adeiu to you my Dinah, A thousand times adieu
C Am F G C G
We are going away from the Holy Ground, And the girls that we loved true
C G C C C Am F G
We will sail the salt sea over, And then return for shore
C Am F C C G C (SHOUT)
To see again, The girls we loved, And the Holy Ground once more: FINE GIRL YA'ARE
C Am F G
The girl I do adore
C Am F C C G C (SHOUT)
And still I live in hopes to see, The Holy Ground once more: FINE GIRL YA'ARE
C G C C C G C
I see the storm a-rising, I see it coming soon
C Am F G C G
And the sky it is so clouded, You can scarcely see the moon
C G C C C Am F G
And the good old ship she is tossing about, And the rigging was all tore
C Am F C C G C (SHOUT)
And still I live in hopes to see, The Holy Ground once more: FINE GIRL YA'ARE
C Am F G
The girl I do adore
C Am F C C G C (SHOUT)
And still I live in hopes to see, The Holy Ground once more: FINE GIRL YA'ARE
C G C C C G C
And now the storm is over, We are safe on shore
C Am F G C G
We'll drink and we'll toast to the Holy Ground, And the girls that we adore
C G C C C Am F G
We will drink strong ale and porter, And make the rafters roar
C Am F C C G C (SHOUT)
And when our money is all spent, We'll go to sea once more: FINE GIRL YA'ARE
C Am F G
The girl I do adore
C Am F C C G C (SHOUT)
And still I live in hopes to see, The Holy Ground once more: FINE GIRL YA'ARE
