The Byrds fue un banda de rock estadounidense de mediados de la década de 1960 que fue pionera del Folk Rock, el rock psicodélico y el country rock, siendo considerados como la respuesta estadounidense a la invasión británica encabezada por los Beatles.
EL gérmen de los Byrds fue el trío folk acústico californiano The Jet Set de 1964, integrado por Roger McGuinn (nacido como Jim en Chicago, 1941), Gene Clark (Tipton, Misouri 1941) y David Crosby (Los Ángeles 1941).
