Date: Fri, 29 Nov 1996 11:40:22 EST-10 From: MENDE JOVESKI Subject: Chords: Chimes of freedom - The Byrds
I heard this version on this "The best of Tour of Duty" CD that I found at my local library, fell in love it, work out the music and lyrics (hope it's right), and decided to post it here. Great lyrics. (what do expect anyway if it's written by Dylan!)
Here comes:
Chimes of Freedom - The Byrds (B. Dylan) (Not sure of the exact album, but it should be on their compilations like the box set ect).
Arr. Mende Joveski
Chords Used:
Am x02210 C x32010 C/B x22010 C9 x32033 D xx0232 Dsus4 xx0233 G 320033
intro: GCC/BDDsus4CDG
GC9 Far between sundowns finish GC9 And midnights broken toll GC9DC We ducked inside the doorway - thunder crashing
GC9 As majestic bells of bolts GC9 Struck shadows in the sounds GC9DG Seeming to be the chimes of freedom flashing
CHORUS:
D Flashing for the warriors GC9G Whose strength is not to fight DG Flashing for the refugees AmD On the unarmed road of flight GC9 And for each and every underdog GC9 Soldier in the night GC9DG And we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing
2nd verse: Even though the clouds white curtain, in the far off corner flashed And the hynotic splattered mist was slowly lifting Electric light still struck like arrows, fired but for the ones Condemned to drift or else be kept from drifting
Chorus: Tolling for the searching ones, on their speechless seeking trail For the lonesome hearted lovers with too personal a tale And for each unharmful gentle soul, misplaced inside a jail And we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing
Dee dee dee dee dee (ect)
3rd verse: Starry eyed and laughing, as I recall when we were caught Can't find no track of ours for they hang suspended And we listened one last time, and we watched with one last look Spellbound and swallowed until the tolling ended
Chorus: Tolling for the aching ones, whose wounds cannot be nursed For the countless confused accused misused strung out ones and worse And for each and every hung up person in the whole wide universe And we gazed upon the chimes of freedom flashing
Dee dee dee dee dee-da (ect)
It sounds right to me but if you have any suggestions or insults, I await them all.
