Matt Ward, cantante y guitarrista, vive actualmente en Portland, Oregon y graba con su banda Rodriguez. Su repertorio cuenta con canciones folk-pop acústicas, enraizadas con la tradición guitarrística del folk americano (John Fahey). Su primera grabación como M. Ward fue "Devil in the woods" y su primer álbum, "Duet for guitars #2". En 1999, durante un concierto en Seattle, Ward deposita en la mano de Mr Howe Gelb (Giant Sand, OP8) una maqueta grabada de forma bastante rudimentaria.
