Biografía:

Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr. nació el 20 de Junio de 1949 en Alabama, Estados Unidos. Cuando terminó la secundaria, su familia se mudó a Illinois, pero él logró ganar una beca de tennis en el Instituto Tuskegee de Alabama, y regresó a su ciudad natal. Es ahí donde se forma musicalmente en el género R&B.

En 1968, se convierte en el cantante principal y en saxofonista de la banda “The Commodores”. La agrupación firma un contrato con la disquera Atlantic Records para hacer un disco; posteriormente firman con Motown Records
