Iain (o Ian) Matthews (n. 16 de junio de 1946, en Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire). Es un "songwriter" al que se le conoce sobretodo en su faceta solista, aunque fue miembro de los Fairport Convention durante la primera etapa, cuando estaban influidos por la psiquedelia y el folk-rock de la Costa oeste.
En los Fairport Convention compartía voces con Judy Dyble y con Sandy Denny. Cuando en el 69 la banda se orientó más hacia lo celta y la tradición británica
