Field Report is an American folk band formed in 2011 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The band is led by singer/songwriter Christopher Porterfield (a form member of the Justin Vernon-led band DeYarmond Edison.
Field Report, an anagram of Porterfield's surname, was culled together in the studio while recording their 2012 self-titled debut. They suddenly found themselves championed by their former idols: offered support tours by Counting Crows and Aimee Mann, lauded by the likes of Mark Eitzel and Richard Thompson, and covered by Blind Boys Of Alabama.

HOME (LEAVE THE LIGHTS ON) FIELD REPORT
CAPO: 2nd FRET
INTRO: C
VERSE: FCGC Cold snapped like a coiled spring FCG You can feel the frost coming on FCGAm We are marigolden dropping orange and umber, GCC Barely holding on GC Just barely holding on
FCGC And now downtown's dolled up tinsel and angels FCGC Seasons sneak like haircuts, teased apart and tangled FCGAm We were fraying for a while, and we took it all down CGC Like garland hanging off traffic signals
CHORUS: F Leave the lights on
Cause it might be nighttime C When I get there G But I'm on my way home
F Leave the lights on
Cause it might be nighttime C When I get there GC And I'm on my way home
VERSE: FCGC Putting on old clothes in a new way FCGC Putting on the pose of a new stage FCGAm Waking up everyday just a little bit changed CGC As it breaks over us like waves
FCGC And long live beauty short live pain FCGC Lust for wonder and hunger pangs FCGAm Face your fears, but not your shame CGC Doesn't end it just wears away
CHORUS: F Leave the lights on
Cause it might be nighttime C When I get there G But I'm on my way home
F Leave the lights on
Cause it might be nighttime C When I get there GC And I'm on my way home
VERSE; FCGC I've been clawing away at what's underneath FCGC Closer than solid ground beneath your feet FCGAm Closer, even now, than lips and teeth CGC Closer now, then out of reach
BREAK: FCGC And the body remembers what the mind forgets FCG Archives every heartbreak, and cigarette FC And these reset bones GAm They might not hold, GC Yeah, but they might yet
CHORUS: F Leave the lights on
Cause it might be nighttime C When I get there G And I'm on my way home
OUTRO: F Leave the lights on
Cause it might be nighttime C When I get there GCC And I'm on my way home GCC I'm on my way home GCC I'm on my way home
