C F
Deep water, ice and snow
G C
And with a thousand cattle, we had to go
F
To get the cattle to the other side
G C
You can bet your life we had to ride
C F
Now the railroad was but a mile away
G C
But some men and horses would die that day
F
We held the herd on a ridge close by
G C
As the north wind blew the snowflakes by
C F
Well we were all chilled our bodies thru
G C
But from cold or fear, nobody knew
F
So we lit us a smoke and we watched her blow
G C
Now slack your cinches, we gotta go
C F
Deep water, ice and snow
G C
And with a thousand cattle we had to go
C F
Well I pointed the men and we hit her fast
G C
But our luck by now was a fadin fast
F
That man was a talkin from down below
G C
As my horse and I were next to go
C F
Well my horse turned over and I floated free
G C
But the waves was so high, I couldn't see
F
Then my horse swam by and I grabbed his tail
G C
He dragged me outa that icy hell
C F
Deep water, ice and snow
G C
And with a thousand cattle we had to go
C F
Well I'll never forget that terrible day
G C
When grown men cried and I heard some pray
F
We crossed the cattle to the other side
G C
Just to save a vain mans pride
C F
Well the hell I've seen was mighty cold
G C
But the other kinds worse or so I'm told
F
Well I just hope when I have to go
G C
It ain't in deep water, ice or snow
C F
Deep water, ice and snow
G C
And with a thousand cattle we had to go
F
To get the cattle to the other side
G C
You can bet your life we had to ride
