David Blue (February 18, 1941—December 2, 1982), born Stuart David Cohen, was an American singer-songwriter and actor. He was an integral part of the Greenwich Village folk music scene in New York, which included Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, Dave Van Ronk, Tom Paxton, and Eric Andersen. Blue is perhaps best known for writing the song "Outlaw Man" for the Eagles, which was included on their 1973 Desperado album, as well as released as their second single.

David Blue Midnight Through Morning written by David Blue
F The room it was lit up me too I couldnt sit up
Engaged was my time in studying the wall C And all the poets kept getting louder
Even though they weren't needed any longer
The strapless high heeled street walker C7 Believes every day that she goes younger FEb Ah I wish I could be her lover FEb And go with her as she makes her rounds FCBbF And falls with her hair as it comes down F The poets would keep on all night with thier come ons F One would say somethong another'd say more C Looking for contracts but finding the soap
Well I know she'd take them all as a joke C Ah but she'd take them all no doubt C And they never knowing what it was about FEb Ah I wish I could be her lover FEb And go with her as she makes her rounds FCBbF And falls with her hair as it comes down F With burning candle and the store window
Hard to believe there could be more C All the poets complained of the cold C But they only did what they were told C Searching so hard for a satisfied mind CC7 While she walked by with a satisfied soul FEb Ah I wish I could be her lover FEb And go with her as she makes her rounds FCBbF And falls with her hair as it comes down F A radio played on to almost no one F Attention was payed only to dawn C As she stopped and bent to touch her nylons
And felt in the air for a post to lean on
No one could ever know her outside C7 In the take of an instant she had passed by FEb Ah I wish I could be her lover FEb And go with her as she makes her rounds FCBbF And falls with her hair as it comes down F Symbols and motives were again promoted F Hard to believe there could be more C As she moved on and then faded out
To the songs of the poet still keeping it up
The sidewalks cleared themselves for a new touch C7 And it all disappeared into the face of the clock
