Song by Johnny Horton circa 1959
Played in C, but on the records I have, it seems to be played C with capo on 3rd fret,
so naturally I use C with capo on 3rd fret and it goes fine with the records.
Don't Use My Heart For A Stepping Stone
#1
C F G7 C
Don't use my heart for a stepping stone to someone else's arms
F G7 C
Cause darling now I love you so just say you love me to
F G7 C
My fondest dreams depend on you to make my life complete
F G7 C
My love for you will never die no matter what you do
#2
F C G7 C
The world will go on living dear but no one else will do
F C Am D7 G7
So say that we can start anew cause darling I love you
C F G7 C
Don't use my heart for a stepping stone to someone else's arms
F G7 C
Cause darling now I love you so my heart belongs to you
---Then play (basically just play as fancy as you like, the "forth"
or last line of #1, then pick up on #2 and start singing again
as is below for the ending...
F C G7 C
The world will go on living dear but no one else will do
F C Am D7 G7
So say that we can start anew cause darling I love you
C F G7 C
Don't use my heart for a stepping stone to someone else's arms
F G7 C
Cause darling now I love you so my heart belongs to --you
End
-------------------
An alternate #2. (Note the additional chords. I've heard
it played a bit fancier this way...) I actually prefer it this way.
F G F C G7 C
The world will go on living dear but no one else will do
F G F C Am D7 G7
So say that we can start anew cause darling I love you
C F G7 C
Don't use my heart for a stepping stone to someone else's arms
F G7 C
Cause darling now I love you so my heart belongs to you
---Play and start singing as in the above 'simplier' version
then pickup the same way as below for the end:
F G F C G7 C
The world will go on living dear but no one else will do
F G F C Am D7 G7
So say that we can start anew cause darling I love you
C F G7 C
Don't use my heart for a stepping stone to someone else's arms
F G7 C
Cause darling now I love you so my heart belongs to --you
(and then end.)
I hope you enjoy it! ---Beowolff
