IF I WERE A RICH MAN - Fiddler On The Roof
Tune ½ down + capo on 4th
`Dear Lord, you made many, many poor people.
I realize, of course, that it's no shame to be poor.
But it's no great honor either.
So, what would have been so terrible if I had a small fortune?"

If I were a rich man,

Cmaj7 A7
Right in the middle of the town
Dm E7 A
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below
Dm G7
There could be one long staircase just going up
Cmaj7 A7
And one even longer coming down
Dm B7 E7
And one more leading nowhere just for show./
D E9/B
I'd fill my yards with chicks and turkeys and geese
A F#7
And ducks for the town to see and hear
Bm E7 A
Squawking just as noisly as they can
D E9/B
And each loud "cheep" and "swaqwk" and "honk" or "quack"
A F#7
Would land like a trumpet on the ear
Dm7 B7 E7
As if to say `here lives a wealthy man`/

Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes!

Dm G7
And it won't make one bit of difference

If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack

To sit in the synagogue and pray.

And maybe have a seat by the Eastern wall.

And I'd dis - cuss the holy books with the learned men,

several hours every day.
Dm7 B7 E7
That would be the sweetest thing of all.

I used powertab freeware for chordnames and found that tuning ½ down changes those
names. I rewrote the names according to normal tuning.
