Bryan Hyland nació en Brooklyn, Nueva York, el 12 de noviembre de 1943. Consiguió su primer gran éxito cuando aún no había cumplido los 17 años. Tras fichar por el sello Kapp y comenzar a trabajar con músicos y compositores del Brill Building grabó una divertida canción trabalenguas titulada "Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Polka Dot Bikini" y fue esta canción la que lo convirtió en uno de los teen idols más populares de Estados Unidos.
