A.A. Bondy es en realidad su nombre de nacimiento (las siglas de Auguste Arthur) de Scott Bondy, el ex cantante de Birmingham, AL’s Southern grunge darlings Verbena. Después de la separación de Verbena en el 2003, Bondy se retiró a su casa en Palenville Catskills en Nueva York y con el tiempo comenzó a escribir canciones nuevamente, emergente con una despojada de sonido indie folk. Grabó y mezcló su álbum debut como solista, American Hearts, en un granero cerca de su casa, lanzando el proyecto en 2007, sobre la huella Superphonic.
