Posiblemente sea una de las bandas más emblemáticas del siglo XX, X Japan inspiró a toda una nueva generación de músicos japoneses. Inspiraron a muchos músicos del emergente movimiento Visual (X Japan es anterior al estilo Visual-Kei, Hide dio el nombre de Visual Kei al género que aparecería más tarde.) en la música japonesa gracias a su uso único del maquillaje, pelucas imposibles y ropas extrañas. Su estilo es Speed Metal, una variante del Heavy metal; género caracterizado por líneas de batería rápidas y variables
