Waking Ashland fué una banda de piano rock que se formó en Noviembre del 2003 en San Diego, California por el cantante/tecladista Jonathan Jones, el guitarrista Ryan Lallier y el baterista Thomas Lee, todos graduandos de música en la Universidad Estatal de California. Robert Teegarden – un amigo de la banda – ayudó temporalmente a llenar la posición de bajista. El nombre de la banda viene del aspecto de conectar a las personas a través de la música, al igual que con una referencia al pueblo Ashland, en Oregon.
