This is an unreleased (as far as I know) Mountain Goats song. For a video, check out
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmZkc-65jEg.
The chorus contains some Gaelic. "Bainne na mbó is na gamhna" translates to "the milk
of the cow is good for the
calf". Pronunciation is something like "BAN-yeh nuh moh iss nuhng OW-nuh". I'm not a
Gaelic expert, so here's my
source: http://www.irishgaelictranslator.com/translation/topic29414.html). To hear it
pronounced, check out any
version of the original folk song, "The Juice of the Barley".

He hit me right in the face.
A D E
I drove the Falcon uptown.
A D A D
Hung out in the library parking lot.
A E A
The swelling'll never go down.
D A
Tied a Hiram Walker in the lining
A E
of my father's old corduroy coat --
A D A D
big, big plans hatching in my brain and a
A E A
big ugly lump in my throat.
D A
I drove up to Harvey Mudd and I played pinball
A E
'til I didn't want to kill anyone.
A D A D
polished off all my cheap whiskey
A E A
and stepped out into the California sun.
A D A
Singing bainne na mbó is na ngamhna,
A D E
and the juice of the barley for me.
A D A D
Singing bainne na mbó is na ngamhna,
A E A
and the juice of the barley for me.

My thirst carried me up the coast,
A D E
where it only got sharper, God damn it,
A D A D
in a small room that got even smaller
A E A
a block away from the Wilamette.
D A
There was nowhere I needed to go,
A E
and nowhere I wanted to be.
A D A D
And my window looked out upon nothing,
A E A
and nothing looked right back at me.
D A
I had a couple of things on my mind,
A E
a couple of problems to think through,
A D A D
and I drank 'til I couldn't see straight anymore --
A E A
until there was nothing to drink to.
A D A
singing bainne na mbó is na ngamhna,
A D E
and the juice of the barley for me.
A D A D
singing bainne na mbó is na ngamhna,
A E A
and the juice of the barley for me.
