Amsus2 Amsus2 Solitude stands by the window Amsus2 Amsus2 She turns her head as I walk in the room Amsus2 Amsus2 I can see by her eyes she's been waiting Amsus2 Amsus2 Standing in the slant of the late afternoon Am(9) Am(9) And she turns to me with her hand extended B5/AB5/A Amsus2 Amsus2 Her palm is split with a flower with a flame
Solitude stands in the doorway I'm struck once again by her black silhouette By her long cool stare and her silence I suddenly remember each time we've met And she turns to me with her hand extended Her palm is split with a flower with a flame [12 bars of instrumental again]
Amsus2 Amsus2 Amsus2/G Amsus2/F And she says, "I've come to set a twisted thing straight" Amsus2 Amsus2 Amsus2/G Amsus2/F And she says, "I've come to lighten this dark heart" C#m7C#m7Bsus4 Amsus2 And she takes my wrist, I feel her imprint of fear C#m7C#m7Bsus4 Amsus2 And I say, "I never thought of finding you here"
And I turn to the crowd as they're watching They're sitting all together in the dark and the warm And I wanted to be in there among them I see how their eyes are gathered into one And she turns to me with her hand extended Her palm is split with a flower with a flame [12 bars of instrumental again]
