Stephen Joshua Sondheim (Nueva York, Estados Unidos, 22 de Marzo de 1930), es un compositor y letrista estadounidense de teatro musical.
Es considerado como el principal creador de su generación de obras de dicho género. Descrito por Frank Rich en el diario The New York Times como «el más grande y, quizá, el artista más reconocido del teatro musical estadounidense».
