Steel Pulse originalmente formado por David Hinds (voz, guitarra), Basil Gabbidon (guitara, voz) and Ronnie McQueen (bajo) en Handsworth Wood Boys School, Birmingham, UK.
Es Hinds quien, como letrista, ha estado siempre detrás de Steel Pulse, desde sus comienzos en la Birmingham club scene en adelante. Formados en 1975, su álbum debut, 'Kibudu, Mansetta And Abuku" se editó en la pequeña discográfica independiente Dip, y se unió a la situación de la "juventud negra" urbana con la imagen de una gran África como hogar.
