F CF There's the river, there's the house, and there's the church. C And there's us years ago. FCF Deep in your garden where the nettle met the rose C Is where we hide ourselves.
PRE-CHORUS
BbC Yes we were just kids, but you couldn't tell us that. Bb These are the garden rules, C That's what you always said.
CHORUS
Bb Oh, you will never know, C How much I love you so, Bb Oh, you will never know, C How much I love you.
VERSE 2
You would call the garden rules out like commands, And we would all obey. But you'd stifle giddy laughter as you spoke, And puncture the pretend.
PRE-CHORUS
And we would chase our tails until the sun forgot to shine. And our parents called our names, Until just you and I were left.
CHORUS
Oh, you will never know, How much I love you so, Oh you will never know, How much I love you.
BRIDGE
F From your house we walk the river, C to the church by the silent fields, F Amongst the lavender of headstones, C And the larks in our Sunday clothes. BbC Your father comes to you as he's looking at his watch, BbC You leave me with a kiss on my quickly heating cheek.
CHORUS
Oh, you will never know, How much I love you so. Oh you will never know, How much I love you. Oh you will never know, How much I love you so, Oh, you will never know, How much I love you.
