Sheryl Crow nació el 11 de febrero de 1962 en Kennett, un pueblo de Missouri (EEUU). Era casi inevitable que se dedicara a la música, ya que proviene de una familia de músicos. Su padre Wendell Crow tocaba en bandas de swing y su madre, Bernice, era músico de profesión. Sheryl comenzó a estudiar piano con tan sólo 5 años. Desde muy niña escuchaba música de Christine McVie (Fleetwood Mac), Elton John y Bob Dylan. Influenciada por todos ellos, escribió su primera canción a los 13 años.
