Pete Townshend es uno de los músicos que más influencia han dado a la historia del Rock. Ha sido el guitarrista y líder de The Who desde sus inicios, siendo el compositor y arreglista de sus mejores canciones.
Su obra maestra es sin duda la ópera rock Tommy, la cuál fue llevada al cine y en la cuál actuaron entre otros Eric Clapton, Jack Nicholson, Tina Turner, Elton John, Ann Margaret y The Who, siendo Roger Daltrey quien interpretó a Tommy.
