Cecil Nicholas Thomas más conocido como Nicky Thomas nació en 1949 en Porlant, Jamaica.
Su entrada en el mundo de la musica, profesionalmente hablando al menos, no llegaría hasta el 5 de Junio de 1969 con el temazo "Gipsy" seguidamente con otros temas como "Run Nigel Run" con cual se ganaría el apodo de Mr Nigel. Sus primeras grabaciones fueron producidas por el productor Derrick Harriot y posteriormente por Joe Gibbs grabando temas como "Turn Back The Hands Of Time" entre otros.
