Mazzy Star es una banda de rock alternativo americana formada en 1989 como una evolución de la banda Opal, una colaboración entre el guitarrista David Roback y el bajista Kendra Smith. Hope Sandoval, amiga de Smith la reemplazó como vocalista de la banda. Si la psicodelia tuvo una voz en los '90s post-punk, Mazzy Star fue sin duda su mejor reencarnación. Ellos se encargaron de reivindicar el lado oscuro de la psicodelia
