Marvelous 3 se formó por el cantante/guitarrista Butch Walker, bajista Jayce Fincher, y batería Doug MItchell. Los tres miembros de la banda tocaron juntos antes en Southgang, Floyds Funk Revival, y The Floyds, antes de reemerger como Marvelous 3 en 1997 cuando sacaron su primer álbum titulado Math and Other Problems.
El álbum más exitoso de la banda - Hey! Album - se publicó en 1998 con el single "Freak of the Weak", alcanzando el número 5 en las listas Billboard de canciones de Rock Moderno.
