Laughs and jokes CF And drinks and smokes CF And no lights on the stairs Am We were young, so young CF And always broke GAmF Not that we ever cared CGC Not that we ever cared
GF Well, the holes in the walls CG Were such a lot FC Welcome to London town GF But when you’re new to it all C And you think you’re hot GFC You’re not planning on hanging around CF People would go on their different ways CAmF I left to start a band GFCG A note came through the letter box FC In your childlike hand
Am Oh, laughs and jokes CF And drinks and smokes CF And no lights on the stairs Am We were young, so young CF And always broke GAmF Not that we ever cared CGC Not that we ever cared
GFC One day I rode to where you were GFC The doorbell jangled a note GF They buzzed me in C I climbed the stairs GFC In my boots and leather coat C There’s an old brass F Standing there at the top CAmF Without her witch’s broom GFC It almost seemed like a knocking shop GFC When the girls came out of their rooms
GF And they all stood around C And stared at me GFCG Two brunettes and a blonde FC Then the old brass shrugged and said GFCC We don’t know where she’s gone F Later on I picked up the ball CAmF And I took off down the line GFC I suppose by then I’d realised GFC You’d run into hard times
Am Oh, laughs and jokes CF And drinks and smokes CF And no lights on the stairs Am We were young, so young CF And always broke GAmF Not that we ever cared C/GGC Not that we ever cared
