Con un tono barítono vocal que nos puede recordar a John Hiatt y unas marcadas influencias vocales de Brian McKnight, Otis Redding y, como no, de Stevie Wonder , debutó con solo 20 años en la escena musical. Con frecuencia se ha utilizado el término bayou soul (o Louisiana Bayou) para referirse al estilo característico de este artista: una curiosa mezcla de soul, blues, pop y rock en la que sus raíces sureñas han actuado como catalizador de todo este proceso.
