La banda de rock moderno Lit fue formada en Orange County, Los Angeles, en 1990 por el cantante A. Jay Popoff, su hermano y guitarrista Jeremy, el bajista Kevin Baldes y el bateria Allen Shellenberger. Tras tocar durante 7 años en el circuito local publicaron “Tripping the Light Fantastic” en 1997. El disco fue un hit de las radios universitarias y les permitió firmar un contrato con RCA, publicándo alli “A Place in the Sun”. Los singles “My Own Worst Enemy” y “Zip-lock” se transformaron en hits
