Jason Isbell - Songs That She Sang in the Shower
Tabbed by: jakevogel
Double-D tuning – tune both E strings down to D
[I was not a music major and have probably mislabled some of the chords. I chose
the labels for ease. Also I’m not sure that he tunes the high “e” string down to
“d” but I like the way it sounds acoustically so that’s what I did. Hope you
enjoy this great song.] [6/12/16 - The video I used is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3zb8ZpAzRc
On the Dsus he actually uses his pinky to play it 054050. The last two notes are both E, so he doesn't
tune down the e string. Mostly that means you don't strum the last e string in severl chords.
I think it's easier this way, and I like the way it sounds as I have written it - but that's not
"gospel"! Play it however you want and enjoy playing it. I only hope this helps get you started so
you can add your variations as you like! Enjoy!]

[Verse]
Dsus Dsus
On a lark. On a whim.
Am7 Em7 Dsus
I said there’s two kinds of men in this world and you’re neither of them
Dsus Dsus
And his fist, cut the smoke
Am7 Em7 Dsus
I had an eighth of a second to wonder if he got the joke
Dsus Dsus
In the car, headed home
Am7 Em7 Dsus
She asked if I had considered the prospect of living alone
Dsus Dsus
With a steak, held to my eye
Am7 Em7 Dsus
I had to summon the confidence needed to hear her goodbye
Am7 Em7 Dsus
And another brief chapter without any answers blew by
[Chorus]
D G D G
And the songs that she sang in the shower are stuck in my head
D Asus D
Like Bring Out The Dead. Breakfast In Bed.
D G D G
And experience robs me of hope that she’ll make it back home
D Asus D
So I’m stuck on my own. I’m stuck on my own.
[Verse]
Dsus Dsus
In a room, by myself
Am7 Em7 Dsus
Looks like I’m here with a guy that I judge worse than anyone else
Dsus Dsus
So I pace, and I pray
Am7 Em7 Dsus
And I repeat the mantras that might keep me clean for the day
[Chorus]
D G D G
And the songs that she sang in the shower all ring in my ear
D Asus D
Like Wish You Were Here, how I wish you were here.
D G D G
And experience robs me of hope that you’ll ever return
D Asus D
So I breathe and I burn. I breathe and I burn.
[Bridge] D - D/C#
D/B A G
And the church bells are ringing for those who are easy to please
D/B A G Asus
And the frost on the ground prob’ly envies the frost on the trees
[Chorus]
D G D G
And the songs she sang in the shower are stuck in my mind
D Asus D
Like Yesterday’s Wine, like Yesterday’s Wine
D G D G
And experience tells me that I’ll never hear them again
D Asus D
Not thinking of then. Not thinking of then.
