Sir Harry Donald Secombe CBE was born in Swansea in 1921, after leaving school he joined the
Territorial Army in 1938 and served in Italy during WWII.
He met Spike Milligan in Tunisia and after the war they joined the cast of the Windmill
theatre and there met Michael Bentine and Peter Sellers.
This quartet wrote a comedy for BBC radio that would develop into the Goon Show which
ran from 1951 to 1960.
During this time Harry also pursued a singing career which continued up to 1999 when he
suffered a second stroke, his first being in 1997.
A big favorite with the royal family, Prince Charles especially, he was knighted in 1981.
Harry died in 2001 at the age of 79.
