Biografía:
Nacido en una familia de fuerte inclinación musical, su padre era saxofonista, y su madre cantaba gospel en el coro de la Iglesia, el saxofonista, Grover Washington Jr, cursó en la adolescencia estudios de piano y continuó su formación en los grupos de rhythm and blues y en los tríos de órgano de los sesenta. Su relación con el jazz se inicio con los organistas, y en especial con John Hammond, con quien grabaría el disco: "Breakout", que le abrió las puertas de la fama.
