Don Williams nace un 27 de Mayo de 1939 en Floydada (Texas), aprendiendo ya de pequeño los secretos de la guitarra gracias a las clases que recibe de su madre, para ya siendo adolescente actuar frecuentemente en los bailes que en su High School se celebraban con frecuencia, militando por entonces como la mayoría de los jóvenes de la época no solo en la Country Music, sino también en el Rock And Roll que por entonces aún estaba naciendo.
En 1964 contando Don con 25 años se alía con Lofton Cline para formar "The Strangers Two"
