Dry The River

Biography:

Dry the River were a folk rock band from Stratford, London, UK, formed in spring 2009. Frontman Peter Liddle decribes their sound as "folky gospel music played by a post-punk band". Currently, the band consists of Peter Liddle (vocals, guitar), Matthew Taylor (guitar, keys, vocals), Scott Miller (bass, percussion, vocals) and Jon Warren (drums, percussion). The original lineup also included Will Harvey (violin, viola, keys, mandolin); however, he left the band in early 2014.

Hello there, sorry if there's a couple of mistakes in the lyrics, but the chords are all good.
The chords with a dash (F' G') are the places I play it as a bar chord because I think
it sounds better, but it doesn't really matter and its up to you. Enjoy.

Capo 1
Standard Tuning

[Verse 1]
C G
You've made your decision now get up and leave

F' G' C
The familiar sting of the woodcutters swing to the tree

C G
I’ll fall in the forest to elbows and knees.

F' G' C
And it won't make a sound since there's no one around here to see

[Pre-Chorus]
F' C
I was prepared to love you

F' C G
And never expect anything of you

[Verse 2]
C G
If a spirit has left you baby don't lie to yourself

F' G' C
Put them old records on and admit that it's gone somewhere else

C G
Just because we're beasts of blame by nature doesn't mean that you should carry it again

F' G' C
It's a question of needs, and not rosary beads, in the end

[Chorus]
F' C
I was prepared to love you

F' C
And never expect anything of you

F'
But there's no patron saint of silent restraint

C G F
There ain't no sword in our lake

C
Just a funeral wake

[Bridge]
Am C
You were the coldest star in the sky

F C
Only I couldn't see it I was blind

Am C
In come the black night calling your name since you were born

F' G' C
Only I couldn't hear it I was empty as a drum

[Chorus]
F' C
I was prepared to love you

F' C
And never expect anything of you

F'
But there no patron saint of silent restraint

C G F
There ain't no sword in our lake

C G F
There ain't no sword in our lake

C G F
There ain't no sword in our lake

C
Just a funeral wake.
