Dire Straits were a British rock band from Newcastle, United Kingdom, formed in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (guitar and vocals), his brother David Knopfler (guitar), John Illsley (bass), and Pick Withers (drums), and subsequently managed by Ed Bicknell. The band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
Dire Straits emerged during the post-punk era of the late '70s, and while their sound was minimalistic and stripped down, they owed little to punk.

Dmin (5th posn) Cmaj (3rd pos) Bbmaj (1st pos) A7 (1st pos) You get a shiver in the dark, its raining in the park the meantime
DminCmajBbmaj A7 Sound of the river you can hear everything
Fmaj (1st pos) Cmaj (3p) A band is blowing dixie - double four time
Bbmaj (1p) Dmin (5p) You go inside when you hear the music play
BbmajDminBbmaj-(slide)-Cmaj (short fill)
The rest of the song continues with the same chord structure, but between some verses there is a long-fill/chorus which is:
BbmajDmin Bbmaj-slide-C We are the sultans Bbmaj Dmim Bbmaj-slide- CDmin we are the sultans of swing DminCmaj Bbmaj-slide-CDminC {repeat once}
Note -
The Bb-Dmin-Bbmaj-C part in the chorus can be quite tricky if the song is played at a fast tempo. One trick is just to play strings 2,3,4 (using the first finger for Bb and C). Then, the Dmin shape can be fingered on top of the C shape using fingers 2,3,4.
