Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
This is my first time transcribing a song so I don't expect it to be absolutely perfect. You should be able to get a good idea for how the song goes using these chords. I hear Darrell Scott using random hammer on's and pull off's surrounding the D chord and Dsus so feel free to use them interchangeably. Note sure about the proper chord namings so here is a diagram
If I am playing this song solo, I like to use this intro to thicken the sound. The extra Asus indicates how many times the strings are played in each formation.
(For the verse strum pattern, strike the root then strum entire chord,Up,Down,X)
[Verse 1] Em Dad never started drinking 'til he was thirty-five C And once he found the power
He made up for his lost time Dsus Go outside and catch a cricket, then unplug the phone C Said their singing kept him company B When we'd leave him alone
[Verse 2] Em Those were days of feeling awkward
Being seventeen and such C Hoping I could find some comfort
In a deacon's daughter's touch Dsus I'd spend time out in the desert
Feeling lonely with a friend C And we'd talk about leaving B But it was years before we did
[Chorus] CGD Oh the time moves slow CGD And you can't go where you want to go CGD But, oh the time slips away EmCD Day after day, day after day
Day after day
[Intro Chords]
[Verse 3] Em
Well I found myself a genie
Said she's grant a wish for me C And all I had to do for her was love her endlessly Dsus So I asked my dad about it and he said
Son, life's a game we play C So I closed my eyes, held her and said B Take me away Em Let's live in a lighthouse on the Maritime shore C And we'll hang a wreath to loneliness
Upon our lighthouse door Dsus But we never made the ocean, she never followed through C She said the day she left B You know, I really thought you knew
[Chorus] Bridge Jam (Use Intro Chords with slight timing variations)
[Verse 4] Em Well I went back home to see my dad
And I walked through the door C To his photographs of Hank and Johnny
Lying on the floor Dsus Hank had a hole shot through his mouth
And Johnny in the head C There were crickets in hallway B And Dad awake in bed Em He was sitting in the darkness
With just a cigarette light C Said he went a little crazy
Sometime in the night Dsus I never asked him about the pictures
Though it was clear to me C He shot 'em for the life B And the man he wouldn't be
[Chorus] CGD Oh the time moves slow CGD And you can't go where you want to go CGD But, oh the time slips away EmCD Day after day, day after day
