THIS IS MY YEAR FOR MEXICO Recorded by Crystal Gayle Written by V. Matthews
[G] You no longer notice [C] if I'm wearing per-[G] fume I seldom hear a lover's word from [D] you Your [G] attention's wrapped up [C] in the mornin' [G] paper And I feel a restless [D] yearn for somethin' [G] new.
We used to whisper love across the nighttime Now we never whisper nor recall Our love is left upon the shelf of winter Where the sunlight never touches it at all.
CHORUS It's a [D] habit for us to be to-[G] geth-[G7] er We [C] sit and watch the dead'ning [D] shadows [G] go Ev'ry day last year I [C] left for Cali-[G] fornia This is my [D] year for Mexi-[G] co.
Your back is turned to me while you are leaving I close my eyes while I pretend to go >From the road I hear the sound of passing traffic Some of them are bound for Mexico.
