Coldplay is a British alternative rock band formed in London in 1996. The band's singer/pianist Chris Martin, guitarist Jonny Buckland, bassist Guy Berryman and drummer Will Champion, met at University College London and came together from 1996 to 1998. During these two years, the band changed names from Pectoralz to Starfish and, finally, to Coldplay. Creative director and former manager Phil Harvey is often referred to as the fifth member by the band.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
Hi everyone! So I made up this ACOUSTIC VERSION to help people who would like to play a Coldplay song, so it's not the album version (since it's basically a piano song...), but feel free for any comments or suggestions !!! So enjoy!!!
EDIT AUGUST 11th 2010: Changed the lyrics, they are now accurate, they are from Coldplay's official website.
Standard Tuning with Capo on 2nd fret
[Chords]:
Bm x24432 Bsus2 x24422 G 3x0003 Gma7 3x0023 Em 022000 Em6 022020 Em(2) 079987 A x02220 F#m 244222 D xx0232 or 200232 F# (note) 2xxxxx
EASY VERSION:
[Verse 1]
Bm Was a long and dark December
From the rooftops I remember GEm There was snow, white snow Bm Clearly I remember from the windows G They were watching while we froze Em Down below
[Chorus]
G When the future's architectured ABm By a carnival of idiots on show A You'd better lie low GF#mDBmABm If you love me, won’t you let me know?
[Verse 2]
Bm Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals GEm And a fox became God Bm Priests clutched onto bibles
Hollowed out to fit their rifles GEm And the cross was held aloft
[Chorus]
G Bury me an armour A When I’m dead and hit the ground BmA My nerves are poles that unfroze GF#mDBmABm If you love me, won’t you let me know?
[Solo]
BmBmGEm x2
(don't forget about the capo thing...it's 2 step higher so if you play without a capo, 3 a 5, 2 is a 7, etc...)
(the last chord is played the second time only, and the first time, you just return to beginning of the solo...)
[Chorus]
G I don’t want to be a soldier A Who the captain of some sinking ship Bm Would stow A Far below GF#mDBmABm So, if you love me, why’d you let me go?
[Outro]
DGDBmAG I took my love down to Violet Hill ABmF#mG There we sat in the snow GABmEmDBmA All that time she was silent still F#mGF#mDBmAG Said if you love me, won’t you let me know? F#mGF#mDBmABm If you love me, won’t you let me know?

So it's pretty much all there. For the distorted guitar fill during the verses (instead playing the Em (and Em6 for the complex one)), you can play the last 4 chords written in the "guitar solo"...
