[Verse] F/A The plaza in the village G Where mission bells used to ring FF/A Is now crumbled to a pile of stench and ruin
Even the swallows have vanished G no longer return in the spring FF/A All the blossoms are buried ,'neath the waste G Out of the shadows grow hatred F Along the corridor crawls fear G Crushed by the promise of hope F/A That never returned Bm/DA# Watched with a hawk's trained eye
[Chorus] AmEmCGDm Trees grow silent fruit AmEmCGDm 'neath a suffering sky
F/A Those who have stayed, keep a flame In memory of the fallen And pass on the old rites despite the risk But many more have left here On mended broken wings
F/A Turning to see your reaction G A tear drop fills your eye F But you protest not to give up as give in F/A Heading straight for the wreckage G Picking up a shovel and a hoe FF/A Start putting back the bricks one by one
G Numbers come out of the woodwork F Curious to see the rebirth Bm/DA# Above the swollen clouds
[Chorus] AmEmCGDm A strange sound fills the air AmEmCGDm A silence never heard AmEmCGDm Falling like blessed rain F/A And the swallows return
