In general, I do a lot of back-and-forth between the high and low strings of each chord to imitate his effect.
The song starts on a pseudosloppy (i.e. not really sloppy but "loose" and a bit unpredictable) G.
(feeling-words are difficult, give me a break)
Starting tips for super-new musicians (like me):
For the strum pattern, it goes low-high low-high low-high low-high each measure.
The word "I" (first word of song) begins on the third "low" beat.
"Dumb" is immediately before first low note of the second measure of a group of four.
The C after "delirious" is a very brief transition immediately before the G chord. It's not totally necessary.
Listening carefully for syllables in relation to chord changes like this will help you sing and play.
Peace and love, homies.
