CG There ain't no reason things are this way DEm It's how they' always been and they intend to stay CG I can't explain why we live this way D We do it every day
CG Preachers on the podium speakin' of saints DEm Prophets on the sidewalk beggin' for change CG Old ladies laughin' from the fire escape D Cursin' my name
CG I got a basket full of lemons and they all taste the same DEM A window and a pigeon with a broken wing CG You can spend your whole life workin' for something D Just to have it taken away
CG People walk around pushin' back their debts D Wearin' paychecks like necklaces and bracelet CG Talkin' 'bout nothin', not thinkin' 'bout death D Every little heartbeat, every little breath
CG People walk a tightrope on a razor's edge D Carryin' their hurt and hatred and weapons CG It could be a bomb or a bullet or a pen D a thought or a word or a sentence
CG There ain't no reason things are this way DEm It's how they' always been and they intend to stay CG I can't explain why we live this way D We do it every day
CEmD But love will come set me free CEmD Love will come set me free, I do believe CEmD Love will come set me free, I know it will CEMD Love will come set me free, yes
CG Prison walls still standin' tall DEm Some things never change at all CG Keep on buildin' prisons, gonna fill them all D Keep on buildin' bombs, gonna drop them all
CG Workin' your fingers bare to the bones DEm Breakin' your back, make you sell your soul CG Like a lung that's filled with coal D Suffocatin' slow
CG The wind blows wild and I may move DEm But politicians lie and I am not fooled CG You don't need no reason or a three-piece suit D To argue the truth
CG The air on my skin and world under my toes DEm Slavery stitched into the fabric of my clothes CG Chaos and commotion wherever I go D Love I try to follow
CEmD But love will come set me free CEmD Love will come set me free, I do believe CEmD Love will come set me free, I know it will CEMD Love will come set me free, yes
CG There ain't no reason things are this way DEm It's how they' always been and they intend to stay CG I can't explain why we live this way D We do it every day
