Ben Folds - Not the Same from “Rockin’ the Suburbs”
C major, 4/4
Do is supposed to be D diminished, I couldn't make the stupid circle go up the top where
belongs, d'oh!
Verse 1:
C
You took a trip
G/C
And climbed a tree
Ddim/C C
At Robert Sledge's party
C G/C
And there you stayed 'til morning came
Ddim/C C
And you were not the same after that
You gave your life
To Jesus Christ
And after all your friends went home
You came down
You looked around
And you were not the same after that
Pre-Chorus:
Am7 Fmaj7
Aaah Aaah
C G
You were not the same after that
Am7 Fmaj7
Aaah Aaah
C G
You were not the same after that
Chorus:
Fmaj7
You see them drop like flies
G
From the bright sunny skies
Fmaj7
They come knocking at your door
G
With this look in their eyes
Fmaj7
You got one good trick
G
And you're hangin’ on, you're hangin’ on
C2
To it...
Verse 2: (same chords as before)
You took the word
And made it heard
And eased the people's pain and for that
You were idolized, immortalized
You were not the same after that
Walking tall
You'd bought it all
You were not the same after that
'Till someone died
On the water slide
And you were not the same after that
Chorus: (yep, same chords as chorus before)
You see them drop like flies
From the bright sunny skies
They come knocking at your door
With this look in their eyes
You got one good trick
And you're hangin’ on
You're hangin’ on
To it...
Pre-Chorus:
Am7 Fmaj7 C G
Ooh ooh ooh (You were not the same)
Am7 Fmaj7 C G
Ooh ooh ooh
Chorus:
You see them drop like flies
From the bright sunny skies
They come knocking at your door
With this look in their eyes
You got one good trick
And you're hangin’ on
You're hangin’ on
Fmaj7
(You see them drop like flies)
G Fmaj7
You're hangin’ on
G Fmaj7
You're hangin’ on
G
You're hangin’ on
Outro:
C G/C Ddim/C C
C G/C Ddim/C C
If it's a bit tricky it's probably worth remembering that Ben Folds is a pianist and not
guitarist, some of this song is a bit idiosyncratically written for piano. But it's a
song so can't complain!!
