The Avett Brothers is an American folk-rock band that originated in Concord, North Carolina. Two brothers, Seth Avett and Scott Avett, formed the group in 2000 after the breakup of the former rock band, Nemo, adding a third member, Bob Crawford. Subsequently, they have been joined by cellist Joe Kwon. The Avett Brothers combine old-time country, bluegrass, punk, pop melodies, folk, rock and roll, honky tonk and ragtime to produce a sound described by the Washington Post as "post civil-war modern rock", or by other reviewers as "grungegrass".

Verse:
EbGCmBb If I get murdered in the city,
AbBbEb don't go revengin' in my name.
EbGCmBb One person dead from such is plenty,
AbBbEb no need to go get locked away
CmBbEb When I leave your arms,
CmBbEb the things that I think of
CmBbAbEb No need to get over-alarmed
CmBbEb I'm coming home.
Interlude: Eb, G, Cm, Bb, Ab, Bb, Eb
EbGCmBb I wonder which brother is better
AbBbEb Which one our parents love the most.
EbGCmBb I sure did get in lots of trouble,
AbBbEb they seem to let the other go.
CmBbEb a tear fell from my father's eyes,
CmBbEb I wondered what my dad would say.
CmBb He Said I love you,
AbEb but i'm proud of you both,
CmBbEb In so many different ways.
Interlude: Eb, G, Cm, Bb, Ab, Bb, Eb
EbGCmBb If I get murdered in the city,
AbBbEb go read the letter in my desk.
EbGCmBb Don't bother with all my belongings,
AbBbEb but pay attention to my list.
CmBbEb Make sure my sister knows I love her,
CmBbEb make sure my mother knows the same
CmBbAbEb Always remember there was nothing worth sharing
CmBbEb like the love that let us share our name.
CmBbAbEb Always remember there was nothing worth sharing
CmBbEb like the love that let us share our name.
