Relient K is an American rock band formed in 1998 in Canton, Ohio by Matt Thiessen (lead vocals, guitar, piano), Brian Pittman (bass), and Matthew Hoopes (guitar, backing vocals), during the band's junior year in high school and their time at Malone College. The band is named after guitarist Hoopes' automobile, a Plymouth Reliant K car, with the spelling intentionally altered to avoid trademark infringement over the Reliant name.
In 2000, Dave Douglas replaced Stephen Cushman on drums.

[Intro] e|------|------| B|--10--|---9--| G|--11--|--11--| D|--11--|--11--| Follow strumming pattern the song with these chords. A|---9--|---9--| E|------|------|
I'm not too sure about the second part of the intro while the bass is doing something funky but I think its something like: e|-----------------------------------| B|--10---9--10---9--10---9--10---9---| G|--11--11--11--11--11--11--11--11---| D|--11--11--11--11--11--11--11--11---| A|---9---9---9---9---9---9---9---9---| E|-----------------------------------|
[Verse 1] A5B5 I've given up on giving up slowly D5 I'm blending in so you won't even know me F#5E5A5C#5D5 Apart from this whole world that shares my fate A5B5 This one last call that You mentioned D5 Is my one last shot at redemption F#5E5A5C#5D5 Because I know to live you must give your life away
[Pre-Chorus] F#5D5A5E5 And I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity F#5D5A5E5 And I've been locked inside that house all the while You hold the key F#5D5A5E5 And I've been dying to get out and that might be the death of me B5 (p.m. if you want) D5 And even though, there's no way in knowing where to go, promise I'm E5 going (mute the strings and strum quickly four times) Because
[Chorus] A5E5D5E5 I gotta get outta here A5E5D5E5(mute effect again) I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake A5E5D5E5 I gotta get outta here F#5E5D5E5 And I'm begging You, begging You, begging You to be my escape.
I'm giving up I'm doing this alone now Cause I've failed and I'm ready to be shown how He's told me the way and I'm trying to get there And this life sentence that I'm serving I admit that I'm every bit deserving But the beauty of grace is that it makes life not fair
[Chorus 2] (Same as Chorus 1) Cause I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity and I've been locked inside that house all the while You hold the key And I've been dying to get out and that might be the death of me And even though, there's no way in knowing where to go, promise I'm going because I gotta get outta here Cause I'm afraid that this complacency is something I can't shake I gotta get outta here And I'm begging You, I'm begging You, I'm begging You to be my escape.
[Bridge] F#5D5 I am a hostage to my own humanity F#5D5 Self detained and forced to live in this mess I've made F#5D5 And all I'm asking is for You to do what You can with me B5D5E5 (let ring) But I can't ask You to give what You already gave
[Chorus 3] (Same as Chorus 1) Cause I've been housing all this doubt and insecurity and I've been locked inside that house all the while you hold the key And I've been dying to get out and that might be the death of me And even though, there's no way in knowing where to go, promise I'm going because I've gotta get outta here I'm stuck inside this rut that I fell into by mistake I've gotta get outta here And I'm begging You, I'm begging You, I'm begging You to be my escape.
[Outro] (All Piano) I fought You for so long I should have let You win Oh how we regret those things we do And all I was trying to do was save my own skin But so were You So were You
