Nick Lowe (born Nicholas Drain Lowe, 24 March 1949, Walton-on-Thames, England) is a well-respected British singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. A pivotal figure in U.K. pub rock, punk rock, power pop, and new wave throughout the 70s and later, Lowe was a key member of bands such as Brinsley Schwarz and Rockpile (with Dave Edmunds). Perhaps best known for his songs "(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" and "Cruel to Be Kind", he has also famously done production work for Elvis Costello.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
This is a great Nick Lowe song. I couldn't beleive it wasn't already posted here, so I had to figure it out for myself. Listen to the song for the strum pattern. I play this with open chords except for the last part of the chorus, where I use a barred A chord starting at the 7th fret, up through the 5th, 4th and ending at the 2nd.
Intro/main chord progression:
AED DEA AED EA
Verse 1: --------
AED I get it every day
DEA I'm getting used to it
AED Now every time it hits
EA My heart quits
AED I wear a little smile
DEA While swallowing the dirt
AED But underneath my shirt
EA My heart hurts
(Intro chords)
Verse 2: --------
AED It's murder but it's nice
DEA Getting away with it
AED The time you let it slip
EA I liked it
AEA My fingers and my thumbs
DEA Overcome me with mirth
AED But underneath my shirt
EA My heart hurts
(strum A for 4 bars leading into chorus)
Chorus: -------
DEA Lord, if you're lonely
EDEA You Must be out of your mind
EBE Lord, if you're lonely
BEDC#B You must be out of your mi--i--i--ind
Verse 3: --------
AED I get it every day
DEA I'm getting used to it
AED Now every time it hits
EA My heart quits
AED Your taste is for the task
DED Your fondness is to flirt
AED But underneath my shirt
EA My heart hurts
(Intro chords)
(Strum A 4 bars leading into chorus)
(Chorus)
(Repeat verse 1)
Repeat main chord progression 4x to fade, with no lyrics except "My heart hurts" at the appropriate part at the end. I'm not entirely sure that the second half of the chorus is correct. May be missing a chord in there. Anyways, this is pretty close, if not 100%.
