...FROM DESPAIR TO WHERE... by Manic Street Preachers
---------------------------..........................

*from 'Gold Against the Soul' (1993)*

Verse 1:

G Am7 C G
I write this alone on my bed; I've poisoned every room in the house.
G Am7
The place is quiet and so a-lone,
C G
Pretend there's something worth waiting for.

G Am7 C G
There's nothing nice in my head; the adult world took it all a-way.
G Am7 Bb (G)
I wake up with same spit in my mouth; I cannot tell if it's real, or not.

Chorus 1:

G C Cm G
I try and walk in a straight line.
G C Cm G
An imi-tation of digni-ty.
G C, Cm G
From despair to where?
G C, Cm (G)
From despair to where?

Interlude:

G Am7, C G (x2)

Verse 2:

G Am7 C G
Out-side open mouthed crowds, pass each other, as if they're drugged.
G Am7 C G
Down pale corridors of rou-tine, where life falls una-toned.

G Am7 C G
The weak kick like straw, 'till the world means less and less.
G Am7 Bb (G)
Words are never e-nough; just cheap tarnished glit-ter.

Chorus 2:

G C Cm G
I try and walk in a straight line.
G C Cm G
An imi-tation of digni-ty.
G C, Cm G
From despair to where?
G C, Cm
From despair to...

Bridge 1:

Em Eb5 D5 A, C G, B
Where...

Em Eb5 D5 A, C G, B (x2)

Chorus 3:

G C Cm G
A cripple walks in a straight line.
G C Cm G
An imi-tation of digni-ty.
G C, Cm G
From despair to where?
G C, Cm G
From despair to where?
