Mae is an American rock band that formed in Norfolk Virginia in 2001. The band's name is an acronym for Multi-sensory Aesthetic Experience, which is derived from a concept called Multi-sensory Aesthetic Theory that drummer Jacob Marshall studied while a student at Old Dominion University.
Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins began what would become Mae by writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes", in Marshall's living room. The band signed with Tooth and Nail Records and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003.

C#m7Bsus4 Are you getting tired? C#m7Bsus4 I think we’ve gone and lost the fire F#7sus4Asus2 But I don’t wanna fight anymore F#7sus4Bsus4C7M I’ve had enough of this town

Verse 2:
You put your nets out But still you chose to do without The only way to catch the butterfly Is never waiting for the wings and
As seasons bring change And as the seconds fade away I still don’t know why we were holding on But I’m still trying to break out
Chorus:
I’ve been waiting for something I’ve been sitting for too long I’ve been waiting but, oh, tonight This one last try goes on and on and on (x2)

Verse 3:
This is the countdown You see our time is running out I tread to stay above the waterline but never taking off the weights that
Keep us stuck here In the comfort, and the fear I’ll never know what we were fighting for but I’m still looking to break out
Chorus:
I’ve been waiting for something I’ve been sitting for too long I’ve been waiting but, oh, tonight This one last try goes on and on and on (x2)
