Lead singers Jacob Hemphill (vocals, guitar) and Bob Jefferson (bass) met in first grade in Virginia, shortly after Jacob had returned from living in Africa with his family. The two instantly became best friends, and in middle school found a common love for hip hop and rock music. Throughout middle and high school, they met Patrick O’Shea (keyboards), Ryan Berty (drums), and Ken Brownell (percussion) – who would later form SOJA. During this period, reggae music was becoming an addiction for the budding musicians.

G#mBb In two months I'm through the doorway D#mG#m Put my guitar on the floor G#mBb And you will sit and tell me D#mG#m That you can't take anymore G#mBb And you will sit and wonder D#mG#m What I can only speculate G#mBbD#mG#m That time is going to be telling us what we don't want it to say B So just be with me now D#mC#B Feel your hair wrap around my finger D#mC#B Feel your words turn into whispers D#mC#G#m Feel you fall asleep and dream dream B That you could be with me now D#mC#B As I keep track on my finger D#mC#B Of the cities and the strangers D#mC#B Of the pieces of my dreams G#mBb It's been so long since I've seen you D#mG#m Almost forgot your face G#mBb And time meant to brings people closer D#mG#m But it does the opposite for me G#mBb So I forgot my hallways and my hotels D#mG#m And a ticket with my name G#mBb It's been too long since I've seen you D#mG#m And there's so much to say
B But just be with me now D#mC#B Feel your hair wrap around my finger D#mC#B Feel your words turn into whispers D#mC#G#m Feel you fall asleep and dream dream dream B That you could be with me now D#mC#B As I keep track on my finger D#mC#B Of the cities and the strangers D#mC#B Of the pieces of my dreams B That you could be with me now yeah D#mC#B Feel your words turn into whispers D#mC#B Your hair wrapped around my fingers D#mC#G#m You fall asleep and dream dream dream B That you could be with me now yeah D#mC#B As I keep track on my fingers D#mC#B The cities and the strangers D#mC#B All the pieces of my dreams
