by Tony Joe White
Tony Joe White

Biography:

Tony Joe White (Oak Grove, Louisiana, July 23, 1943 - October 24, 2018) was an American swamp rock singer-songwriter and guitarist, best known for his 1969 hit "Polk Salad Annie" and for "Rainy Night in Georgia", which he wrote but was first made popular by Brook Benton in 1970. He also wrote "Steamy Windows" and "Undercover Agent for the Blues", both hits for Tina Turner in 1989; those two songs came by way of Turner's producer at the time, Mark Knopfler, who is a friend of White.

Tony Joe White - High Horse

A
You been movin' too fast
Gettin' there too slow
Must be spinning your wheels

C, D

A
Hangin' long and
Ridin' low
Just looking for a place to be still

D A
Maybe there ain't nothing I can do
D
'Cause I'm losing my rhythm
E7
Trying to keep up with you

A
Better get off of your high horse baby
Before you hit the dirt
Better get off of your high horse
Done got your quarter's worth

A
You can whip it hard
You can whip it mean
It don't change a thing

C, D

A
Where you gonna go but up and down
No one hears your scream
D A
I thought that you and me was in tune
D
But you keep on howling when
E7
There ain't no moon

Better get off of your high horse baby
Come on down to earth
Better get off of your high horse
Done got your money's worth

Time flies by and it
Stops so hard and you
Wonder where you been

You can keep on rompin' but
Whatcha gonna do when the
Thrill comes to an end

I hate to tell you baby but your
Saddle's getting kind of loose
I am tired of dealing with your
Nasty attitude

Better get off of your high horse baby
Before you hit the dirt
Better get off of your high horse
Done got your money's worth

Better get off of your high horse baby
Come on down to earth
Better get off of your high horse
Done got your money's worth
