The Beautiful South were a British pop group formed in 1989, from the ashes of Hull, England group The Housemartins. The band was put together by lead singer, Paul Heaton, and drummer, Dave Hemingway. They were joined by Sean Welch (Bass), Dave Stead (Drums) and Dave Rotheray (Guitar). Rotheray also co-writes the songs with Heaton.
In The Beautiful South, Heaton shared the lead singer's role with Hemingway and female singer Briana Corrigan to create a trio of lead vocalists.

Amaj7F#mBmD I was handed down the looks of a man with a broken nose Amaj7F#mBmD That's the way our family was I suppose Amaj7F#mBmD But at least you gave me deeply profound Amaj7F#mBmD As we lay and chattered late upon the cricket ground
ED You didn'd have to love me AE Where others got rid ED You didn't have to treat me like a very good friend ABm But I'm glad you did DE I'm glad that you did
AF#m One thing I never said to you AF#m And one thing I never can AF#m Amongst the false applause and the deafening cheers ABmD I'm you No. 1 fan Amaj7 I'm you No. 1 fan
Amaj7F#mBmD I'm the richly blessed daughter of a mother with tatooed arms Amaj7F#mBmD That's the way my family life, life was charmed Amaj7F#mBmD But at least it gave me a mental grace Amaj7F#mBmD And a thought at the pit of my mind and a smile on my face
ED You didn't have to listen AE To a word that I'd said ED You didn't have to tell me all those silly old jokes ABmD For every tear that I shed E Every tear that I shed
AF#m 'Cos one thing I never said to you AF#m And one thing I never can AF#m Amongst the false applause and the deafening cheers ABmD I'm you No. 1 fan Amaj7 I'm you No. 1 fan
Amaj7F#mBmD I was handed down a bike with a crooked old wheel Amaj7F#mBmD But I rode it on a million lanes the way that you made me feel Amaj7F#mBmD But at least we thought about it so long and so hard Amaj7F#mBmD As we sat upon our mother in the graveyard
ED And you don't have to listen AE To a word in this song ED You picture hangs the same and in the same old place ABmD Even though that you've gone E Even though that you've gone
AF#m 'Cos one thing I never said to you AF#m And one thing I never can AF#m Amongst the false applause and the deafening cheers ABmD I'm you No. 1 fan Amaj7 I'm you No. 1 fan
