Son Volt is an alternative country group which formed in 1994 in St. Louis, Missouri. The band currently consists of Jay Farrar (vocals, guitar), Chris Masterson (guitar), Andrew Duplantis (bass, vocals), Mark Spencer (keyboards) and Dave Bryson (drums). Farrar is the only original member remaining in the band.
Son Volt formed after the breakup of the band Uncle Tupelo, owing to the simmering creative differences between songwriters Farrar and Jeff Tweedy.
Four years of hard work! This month of May we celebrated four years on the air. We continue working on the dissemination of this wonderful instrument, thank you for participating in our story!
***Farrar plays this with capo on 1, as seen in the official video for the song. I think it sounds equally good and is much easier to play with capo on 3, so that's what I've done below.
We’ve [D] tried to [G] guide each [D] day through [G] life Hearts were [D] tried but [G] always [A] true [G] Shifting fate left us to realize There’s nothing more that we could [D] do
They say it [D] can’t go wrong [G] But we [D] can’t go right [G] Always a [D] common thread [G] bet[C]ween us
Though our [G] hearts and minds don’t [D] waver Waiting for [D] love That’s [A] out of [D] danger [A] [D]
[D] Circumstance [G] [D] Left to chance [G] That’s when the [D] romance [G] fires did [A] burn [G] Deal’s gone down so we wait around Waiting for two to [D] learn
Making our [G] days [D] living this way [G] So much to [D] gain, [G] so [C] much to lose
Though our [G] hearts and minds don’t [D] waver Waiting for [D] love That’s [A] out of [D] danger [A] [D]
